[OOC: I was gonna throw the oil in someone's face and then set them on fire, if I had to.]
Elhon stopped and force himself to do a slow count to 30, listening to see if maybe the people above would count a little faster.

(OOC: Ah good thinking.) No one seemed to be counting out loud, by the time Elhon had counted to 10 the Orlesian man had seen him. "What th- stay where you are and drop your weapons." he said, it sounded like he was walking towards him.

Elhon sighed, dropping the lamp in the hopes it would sound like he dropped his weapons. "Did that little twerp at least do as I asked?"

(OOC: You are aware these guys came from further in right? not outside.) "Th- what are you talking about, and more importantly why shouldn't I kill you right now?" As he said this the Orlesian woman from the house above ran round the corner. "We've been made, we need to get out now!"

(OOC: Actually no, I'd interpreted the earlier remarks as the Orlesian woman upstairs finding the guy I killed there. you did mention Elhon couldn't tell what direction the voices were coming from, so I'll just assume he remained confused)
Elhon desperately hoped the Orlesian woman hadn't payed much attention to the faces of her hirelings and put on his best attempt at a Fereldan accent. "Because we have a traitor among us!" he said, pointing at the man. "He tipped off the guard! Killed Mander when he started asking questions!"

"Oh shut up! Abel a Qunari caught me killing Flint and chased me down here, I already took care of Wallace. If it wasn't alone we could be trapped in minutes." The 30 seconds were up. "I'm sorry, you what!" Came an angry voice from down the tunnel. There was a long pause before Abel spoke "Now lets all stay ca-" A crossbow bolt sprouted from his chest before he finished, fired by a very angry looking mercenary, he fell to the floor without another word. The woman assessed the situation, then bolted back the way she'd come. (OOC: in summation there are 4 mercenaries behind him, one Orlesian women ahead of you. I'm going to bring into the thread Maiyrhia here.) As Tamaan reached the tunnel opening she found the woman she'd been chasing running towards her, she came to a skidding halt, shouted an exasperated curse in Orlesian and drew her two daggers.

Somewhat mystified as to her good fortune at finding her quarry suddenly running towards her, the qunari readied her sword and shield. She did not move towards the woman - from the sounds of it, she was trapped anyway. She waited for the woman to come to her instead.
[OOC: Mankoi, I know literally nothing about Elhon - please do fill in a couple of basic details when we meet IC? Race/etc?]

"I don't care in the slightest about bringing justice on people, so anyone who doesn't try to kill me, I won't try to kill you back, deal?" Elhon shouted, stabbing at the Orlesian woman with both daggers. "You know, if you pay these gentlefolk they might let you walk. And me too. I like being paid."

She span as he attacked catching one blade on her arm leaving a large gash, she dropped her dagger before the other was embedded in her gut, she fell to the floor spluttering curses. Tanaam saw the woman she'd chased drop, revealing the rest of the cavern, an elf in leather armour, wielding two very bloody daggers, and 4 angry looking men in leather armour with an array of weapons. "Well I can't say you haven't done us a favor but I'm not having any witnesses linking us to this mess." Said one of the men "Uh... sir said another he gestured around the corner, to the half of the tunnel that Elhon and Tanaam couldn't see, the first man's eyes widened. "On the other hand, I say we deal with the witness issue later. RUN!" At this all 4 of the men began sprinting down the corridor. (OOC: Better? in fairness this is a very confusing situation regardless. What Tamaan knows as it stands is that the woman in front of her has just been cut down by an elf, the men behind him intended to kill both of you because you're both witnesses, although to what she doesn't know exactly, but they seem to have postponed this idea due to something scary round the corner of the tunnel and are now running towards both the elf and Tanaam, presumably to get to the exit. I'm afraid Tanaam has walked into a very messy complicated situation with no real Idea of what is going on.)

Elhon didn't need any further prompting to run as well, though it looked like the Qunari woman was out of the loop. The elf had to crane his neck to look at her face, but her confusion was evident. She also appeared to have been attacking the Orliesian woman, so she didn't seem to be immediately hostile, at any rate.
"Darkspawn!" he shouted at her, not entirely able to contain traces of an Orlesian accent himself. "Run!"
[OOC: That should do as a working description for now, I think? Yes, we were fighting the same woman, and as for the situation... "Darkspawn, run" should cover it for now. Elhon can describe more when there's time that doesn't need to be spent running from or stabbing at people]

[OOC: Thanks both of you. I knew Tanaam didn't understand the situation, but I wanted to understand what was in front of her eyes ) Tanaam blinked. A dozen questions entered her mind - who are you? who are the men? what's going on? how do you know the woman? what just happened? - but one thing was clear in the fog of confusion. "Darkspawn, run!" was certainly easy enough to understand, and run she did, back the way she had come towards the ladder. She would start asking questions later.

Tanaam was the first to reach the ladder, followed by Elhon and then a few seconds later the men. At the point that they reached the second ladder darkspawn hurlocks and genlocks had swarmed the bottom of the hole, luckily someone had the sense to pull the ladder up in time. When they reached the 5th ladder a roar could be heard and anyone brave enough to look down could see a huge horned ogre clawing at the wall. Tanaam reached the top and was given a hand up by a familiar looking guard. "The building is surrounded you're all under arrest, except you." he added looking at Tanaam "although if you would agree to come in for questioning it would be a great help. The rest of you drop your weapons and keep your hands very visible." Everyone of the mercenaries swore as they scrambled over the edge of the hole.

Tanaam kept her hand away from her sword, not wanting to give the guards any reason to try to take it off of her - that would not end well. "I'll come in, but I have to admit the last few turns of events have me confused," she admitted, then gestured down the hole. "Darkspawn that way, in case the noise didn't tip you off."

"I think you may be slightly mistaken," Elhon said, making no effort to hide his Orleasian accent this time, as it would help set him apart from the Fereldans, and he was fairly sure he'd killed all the Orleasians involved before the guard had spoken to them. "I've nothing to do with these mercenaries. My qunari friend here can vouch that they were, in fact, trying to kill me. I got wind of their plan, you see, and came to gather evidence so I could make a report to the proper authorities. I was a little too late, I admit. I even killed their boss before she went after our qunari friend. She probably would have been fine, I admit, but still I'm really sort of a hero, really, or would be if fortune were kinder. You can ask the old man who lives next door too. I mentioned investigating the Deep Roads to him. He probably thought I said Creep Toads or something, he's a little hard of hearing, but, assuming his memory isn't as bad as his hearing, it should be clear I asked him about this."

"Until we ascertain exactly what's happening here and why you're under arrest, if your telling the truth I'm sure you'll be free within a day. Now as I said drop your weapons and keep your hands visible." two other guards were in the process of binding the other men's hands.

Elhon cast down his daggers, glaring. "This is a waste of your time and mine. You have no evidence of any wrongdoing on my part. The only evidence you could possibly find against me would be the word of these men, given out of sheer spite. You've already spoken to the only impartial witness," Elhon indicated the qunari. "If you seek justice, there's no point in my arrest. Otherwise... well you'll have to have one of your men take the bow off my back. I won't give you cause to tell your superiors that the knife ear was reaching for a weapon."

The man looked at Elhon incredulously. "You've been found armed and bloody at the scene of a break in, at least two murders, both with small blades I might add, and whatever charge this qualifies as." he gestured at the hole. "If your as innocent as you say you have nothing to fear from brief confinement well the evidence is examined." This came all across fairly sarcastic. He nodded at one of the other guards in the room, who removed the bow and tied Elhon's hands, before picking up his daggers as well. Everyone was marched to Fort Drakon, a large Fortress that dominated Denerim's south western skyline. After being marched through the gates and into the main building they were all sat down in a surprisingly luxurious waiting room. After a few minutes Elhon and Tanaam were both taken to different rooms, Tamaan's room was quite clearly an office, Elhon's was quite clearly an interrigation room, although though thankfully there were no blood stains or 'tools'. Neither recognised the guards in the rooms waiting for them, Tamaan was greeted by a short grey haired man, with a few to many scars, but a friendly enough smile, Elhon was shoved into a chair opposite a women in her 30's with cropped black hair and a face that clearly stated that nonsense from anyone would lead to injuries. "You know why you're here. Why don't you start from the beginning." they both said.

"I don't know the beginning," Elhon said. "I was told that someone from Orlais was planning to unleash darkspawn on Denerim, and had sent people to see to it. Who and why I don't know, and I work very hard to keep it that way. I was paid by someone else to stop them. ... Who and why, I don't know, and I work very had to keep it that way. The more of the Game you see, the shorter the amount of time you're alive to see for. I came, I built up contacts, and when I found their hideout, I broke in to try and stop them. I killed a Fereldan mercenary by the window, to gain access, knocked out another mercenary on the way down to the tunnel, and finally killed one of the Orlasians down in the tunnels. All of these people were trying to unleash horrors on your city. I sent the mercenary in the tunnels I didn't kill to give a warning to you even, but I think he was intercepted. I even stayed a few extra moments to try and find a way to reseal the passage they had opened, but I could not see a way, and so left. On my way out, the other mercenaries, who had been luring out the darkspawn, caught up with me. Around this time your qunari friend and the Orlesian woman came down the tunnel from the other side. The mercenaries killed the other Orlesian man with them when they learned they were to be killed, and I killed the Orlesian woman in defense of myself and the qunari on my way out. It was at that point that my efforts to save your cesspool of a city were thanked by a jackboot who had be dragged in here, even though I am obviously not a Fereldan mercenary, and I had a witness with me, the qunari, to vouch that I wasn't one of the Orlesians either."

The woman consulted a small book on her table. "It's my understanding that the Qunari only vouched that the mercenaries tried to kill both of you? If the mercenaries were attacking the Orlesians, this does not disprove a connection to these Orlesians. I'm sure she will clarify this during her questioning however so I will leave that for now. You say that you spent some time here building up contacts, can anyone vouch for you being present elsewhere during what was clearly a lengthy dig? if so it will help prove false testimony if those mercenaries decide to cause you trouble. If they don't I don't suppose you'll be here long they're hardly likely to be doing anyone who tried drop them on a deal any favours."

"The qunari will tell you the Orlesian woman wanted me dead, and I stabbed her. I can't tell you who my contacts are, because they're the sort likely to accuse me of crimes to gain your favor, regardless of if I've done then. If you must, talk to the bartender in the inn across from the house in question. I rented a room from him. He thinks he hired me to check the place out. Always get paid twice for the same thing if you can manage it. I'd prefer you didn't send anyone to talk to him. It freaks out the customers, he probably won't pay me if you do, and it's pointless. For all I know, they were nearly done by the time I got here. Or not. They don't tell me these things, and I don't ask. The qunari can verify I was obviously not one of them. Also the window where I broke in. I used glue and vellum to break the glass in silence. I wouldn't break in if I worked with them, there's physical signs I did break in you can go and look at. You can probably still find bits of glue on the window. Or talk to the old man! If he has memory better than his hearing, he'll tell you I went to talk to him. Which would be pointless if I worked for the Orlesians."

Meanwhile, Tanaam scratched at the base of her left horn in obvious confusion. "Honestly, I'm having trouble really understanding it myself," she admitted. "I came to this city looking for work, when I saw the dead man outside the home. I couldn't see who attacked him or why, so I went to find the guards. One of them asked me to watch over the body until reinforcements arrived, so I waited for a while. In the house, I saw the Orlesian woman kill a man. She saw me and she ran inside. I opened the window and followed her down into the giant hole in the ground. I chased her to the bottom, there was a lot of shouting up ahead, the Orlesian woman said something about killing two men, then the mercenaries showed up. She went running back towards me, and got cornered between myself and the elf. She attacked him, he killed her, the mercenaries tried to kill all of us, the Darkspawn showed up, we all ran. And you know the rest."
