Elhon was spending the day as he usually did, hanging out in a bar in Denerim. He'd been hesitant about going to such a large city, where so many people might pass through and see him, but he decided it was better this way. In a small town, everybody knows your name, everyone knows what you do. Here, he was just another anonymous face. The bartender sometimes could hook him up with odd jobs. Elhon didn't know who the jobs were for, or why they needed doing. The people posting the jobs, as far as Elhon knew, didn't know who was doing them, only that they were getting done. He figured the bartender was smart enough to keep the identity of all the people involved secret.
It was riskier than he liked, talking to the same person so often, having someone who knew his face, but he had to eat.

It was a slow day, only a few patrons dropping in for the part, the bartender had nothing to offer the only noteworthy event was the arrival of four Grey Wardens, only identifiable by the insignia's on their weapons and armour. (OOC: Is he living in the bar or somewhere else.)

Elhon sipped at his beer, keeping a careful ear open to what the Wardens were talking about, and trying to determine if they were real wardens, or imposters.
(OOC: Yes, he rents one of the back rooms.)

The men were muttering quietly and Elhon was unable to make out anything except the odd word, even in the relative quite of the inn. A severely unwashed looking woman, he recognised as a beggar who'd been sleeping just outside the inn the last few nights, wandered up to the bar at about 5 pm. She sat down and slid a note to the bar tender who in return passed her a sack, Which she took and immediately left without a word. The bartender gingerly unfolded the note, scanned it then shoved it into his pocket, he then leant over the bar to whisper into Elhon's ear. "Any thoughts on the men at the house outside." Elhon had noticed various men loitering outside the house across from the inn for several days now, he had also noticed that there was always at least one present and they were always armed or concealing weapons. If he'd had to guess he'd have said at least a few had bard training and and were certainly Orlesian. "They're making my Patrons nervous, see what you can find out and I'll reward you, I can't afford what my patrons do but if it's valuable enough information I'll pay what I can and give you a break on the rent." He said all this quickly making sure no one else heard.

Elhon nodded slightly before walking outside, adopting a drunken stumble and pounding on the door of the house in question.

A man who'd been inconspicuously leaning against the wall of the house lurched as if to stop Elhon, then pulled back trying to pretend nothing had happened. After a moment the door opened and a blonde woman in full leather armour stuck her head out "What is-" She started angrily before changing her tone to a nauseatingly pleasant one quickly when she took in his face and appearance. "What can I do for you?"

Elhon blinked up at her for a few moments. ... "... Didn't realize this was the lady's room," he slurred out, tripping over the doorframe and falling against her, trying to look through her pockets as he did so.

She grabbed Elhon's wrist and simultaneously tried to shove him away, apparently she wasn't nearly as strong as she was fast though, as his weight forced her to stumble back. Elhon got a good look passed her into the house, there was a trail of dirt and dust trailing from the door round the corner and into another room and he spotted two shovels and a pick axe leaning against the back wall.

Elhon muttered something that sounded like an apology and tried to help her back to her feet, making a motion like he had been trying to cop a feel, and only missing due to lack of coordination, so as to play off his earlier pickpocketing as drunken lechery. He was actually very concerned by the shovels. It meant they were digging to try and get somewhere, likely, and as they picked the building across from the tavern, there was a fair chance that was their destination. Were they planning to dig their way in and kill him in his sleep? Some of them looked like bards, they'd have reason to try...

Suddenly a pair of hands grabbed him from behind forcibly throwing him from the building. "Clear off!" It was the man he'd seen outside. "Come back and I'll break your legs!"

Elhon staggered out of sight of the house before setting his sights on the surrounding landscape, looking for neighboring houses, or other establishments close enough to the house of the suspicious digging that they might be able to answer some questions.

The house stood wall to wall with two houses either side. The market district was a few streets away but besides the inn there were no commercial buildings nearby. The street itself was empty besides the man who'd guarding the house.

Elhon moved quietly towards one of the neighboring houses, trying to stay out of sight of the man on the street as he moved up to knock on the door.

There was no answer.

Elhon checked for signs that anyone was home, or that they might be back shortly. He had actually been wanting to speak to the occupant, though he supposed if no one was present at either house, he could break in and try his luck.

The house he was at was clearly unoccupied the one on the right however had light coming from its window.

Elhon headed for the house on the other side, being careful to take the long way to get there, so as not to draw attention from the guard in the street.

After a long pause an old man opened the door. "Yes" he rasped out.

"Ah," Elhon said. "Y-yes, hello. I was sent by the City Watch. They're very concerned about the possibility that p-part of the Deep Roads runs close to the surface around this area. You haven't heard any sounds of... digging have you?" Elhon looked for all the world like he hoped the answer was no, twitching nervously and shaking slightly.

The old mans face crumpled in confusion "Rounds of rigging?!" He shouted "No, no rigging round here boy. You might try the Docks."

Well he hadn't heard anything, that was for us.
"Could I possibly come inside?" Elhon said. "I just... need to check your walls."

"Not sure my halls need decking, but feel free, nothing worth stealing in here any way." The man wandered back into his house humming to himself leaving the door open.

Elhon came inside and listened carefully at the walls nearby to the suspicious house. He doubted they were digging at this particular moment, but it was worth a try.

There were no sounds of digging, although snores could be heard from another room in the house, apparently the old man had fallen asleep.
