Roleplay Guidelines:
Posts should be given in the third person. If in doubt just have a quick browse of some existing roleplay posts and follow the style used there. The RP should read almost like a chapter in a book, with each player writing the character(s) that they own.
Two-word replies are definitely frowned on, but we acknowledge that sometimes they're necessary. As a general rule, however, please try to give at least a decent paragraph - some idea of your character's thoughts and feelings would be welcomed in addition to the dry facts of their actions.
You may only roleplay as your own character(s). Don't include so much as a one-word reply or a nod from someone else's character under any circumstances - if the player is away from the site and unable to reply, this will be handled by a staff member.
IC/OOC - See above. All roleplay boards are IC and should be kept so except where absolutely necessary.
Skills - there's a skill list posted separately for each roleplay on the site. If you're using any of these skills, you will need to announce your intention to roll a dice for it. Dice rolls should be included at the bottom of your post, outside the main block of text, and should be labelled OOC. Maiyrhia will roll all dice and post what happens. Example skill use format:
[OOC: Fighting roll]
Every player has three Bennies - one of these can be used to instantly succeed on any one roll. Please announce your intention to do so when posting the roll - and await Maiyrhia's post on what happens as a result. (Of course, it will be a positive result with the auto-success.)
Finally, respect other players. I shouldn't have to give specifics here.
Staff Lock:
Sometimes a staff member will post the following in a thread:
Staff Lock: [member name] must be the next to post.
This should be self-explanatory. You may not make the next post unless you're the person named.
- Spam - Spam, in any form, is not allowed. OOC discussions are allowed in the appropriate areas, but please do not spam.
- Editing out admin edits - They are there for a reason, and even if you have done as they say, editing them out is not permitted and will result in a warning.
- Red text - Bold red writing is reserved for admin notes and must not be used elsewhere or by any other member.
- Unsuitable material - This means posting a link to, or referring to, any sexually explicit or otherwise offensive images or text. This can and will result in instant banning.
- Personal attacks - Any kind of personal attack on other members or staff is unacceptable and will be dealt with harshly. Discrimination of any sort is unforgiveable.
- Swearing - Please try to keep this to a minimum. Swearing is not forbidden (except in the case of excessive or overly offensive words) but please keep it reasonable.
- IC/OOC - Boards are labelled on the home page as either IC or OOC. This is not optional - please remain IC in IC boards, and OOC in OOC boards.
NB: Sometimes you need to make an OOC comment in an IC board. Please preface the comment with OOC: and place it in square brackets: [OOC: Example comment.]
Punishments:
- For minor offences you will receive a friendly warning by a staff member.
- If this continues, or if you commit any major offences, you will get an official warning.
- Further offences will result in strikes by an administrator, which will appear in the form of a warning bar in your profile. The size of the strike will depend on the number and severity of the incidents.
- If this warning bar reaches 100%, you will be permanently banned.
- The staff reserves the right to skip any or all of the above steps in the case of serious rule-breaking.
