(what position is the tree in is it floating, bridging the gap, half in and still on the bank on one side, sunk but big enough to stop the boat?)

[OOC: The tree is firmly stuck in the mud by some of its roots, the other end is floating by the opposite bank. So half in the water, but enough to stop a boat.]

"hang on I've got this" he steps towards the front of the boat and tries to loosen the mud on the roots to free the tree. (OOC: 2 points why not)

The soil swiftly loosened around the roots, and the tree slid fully into the water - still blocking the way, though.
[OOC: Forgot the focus, but that's okay - either way works]

[OOC: Why isn't it floating downstream?]

[OOC: You loosened the roots, it's a big tree still... both ends are effectively tangled up in the undergrowth/boulder etc on each bank. Should have been more clear sorry. Although, can we try to put questions like this via PM please? Save having such long strings of OOC messages.]

Using magic on any earth still connected or in contact with the tree Ronan tries to twist it so it's parallel to the stream and can move freely. (Focus: Power. as many power points as needed)

[OOC: I'm gonna say four to have any chance of succeeding. Passed both - JUST... only thanks to the Artifact for the control]
The tree creaked and groaned, and slowly, sluggishly crawled into the stream with a speed comparable to an ancient, arthritic snail on a slow day. The Artifact of Earth - Ronan's large shield - seemed to glow with Earth magic, taking his powerful but uncontrolled magic and adding its own. The source of magic was much more controlled than the original spell, and eventually the tree was caught by the current, floating downstream with the boat.

Ronan punches the air "Yes!" then goes back to what he was doing.

Nothing much happened for the rest of the day. Lit by the bright, almost full moon, the boat continued floating down the river late into the night, until the owner eventually tied it off against a tree to get some sleep himself.
The next morning found Melasni waking with the dawn, heading onto dry land to make a fire while the boat's owner dunked his head into the cold water to wake himself up (very successfully, but not without some swearing.)

Ronan wakes at dawn and follows Melasni to help build the fire. He mutters to Aron to go play while there is an excess of earth.

Aron disappeared into the mud with a speed that implied sheer happy joy; Melasni simply quirked an eyebrow at the tiny Elemental's antics.

Ronan sets about gathering would for the fire "got a light?" he asked looking at Melasni. He was finding the journey fairly boring, he hadn't realised it but he'd gotten used to travelling with his fellow children, the fact that he missed their eccentricities filling the time unnerved him.

Melasni nodded, tapping a pocket. "If needs be, but either of us should be able to summon enough Fire magic to light dry wood." He held out a hand, and a one-inch ball of flame flickered into life for a few seconds.

"sorry never managed it myself not tried in a long time myself" replied Ronan.

Melasni nodded, using his tiny amount of Fire magic to light the stacked wood. "Were you a mage of any sort before you became a Child of Power?" The casual conversation would have seemed impossible not long ago, given Melasni's disregard for the group at the start.

"You may consider practising," Melasni suggested with a nod. "Trust me, even the smallest amount of Fire can prove very useful. Don't just rely on the other eight to use their Elements properly, learn as much as you can for yourself."

"You make a good point until I left Marstow I never had a real need for low level magic nor the expertise to make it useful. Travelling around the world means I need to be more versatile."

"Keeping a few trinkets with you may prove useful as well." Melasni indicated his own pocket, knowing the mage would sense the several spell-gems within. "I may prove useful in that regard, if you have anything specific or rare you want to acquire. I have a lot of mages who owe me favours." He left unsaid that that would, of course, add Ronan to the list of people who owe him a favour, but he felt it also went without saying that he really did want the Children of Power to win. If he could get a few favours out of them - well, that was a lucky bonus.

Ronan pauses for a second "I will look into gathering gems of use but I have no desperate need as of the moment. However I do have problem you may be able to help with. My armour became unusable soon after I became the child of earth... or was revealed or whatever my sword soon followed but I've replaced that. Since then I have been suffering for the lack, my fighting style demands protection. If you have any mage contacts that could help I would be grateful.

"I have a few Earth mage friends in Marstow," Melasni said after a moment's thought. "I may be able to get you at least some kind of armour." He seemed to be calculating something in his head - namely, how much of a favour he could call in before stretching his welcome too far. "Perhaps a chest-plate; any more would probably require significant funds."

"That would be a great help thank you" Ronan said grinning he was tired of feeling so exposed in combat and attempting to be the frontline with only fabric to protect him. (OOC: happy to skip to night taking the middle watch at this point or whenever is convenient)
