Giving it a curious look, Jack would start pacing around the stone, trying to recall from memory of anything that met that description. Was there really something that could melt adamantium that he knew of?
(OOC: K: Asgard tech?)

As far as Jack could tell, Asgardians may have perfected the art of manipulating adamantium to a degree few humans had, but there was no device of this nature in modern asguardian technology. The item did match some general, if overly flowery descriptions, of an ancient power source briefly used by the asgardians, in days so bygone it was myth even to them, and the origin of which they did not know.

After circling it for a minute, he'd turn to face Phil "Sorry, I've only heard the occasional myth on something like this. According to those, something that matches this sort of description was used as a power supply for a brief moment, but that's all I have on something like this on the top of my head."

"Power supply makes sense," Phil said. "It's very hot. It could generate a lot of clean energy. But it's cool from the outside. I don't know what means would be used to release that energ--"
Phil stopped short as an alarm started to go off.
"We've got a breach. Stay here, this is the most secure part of the facility. I'll send some extra guards back."
Phil then ran off, unholstering his weapon as he went.

Following Phil to the door, Jack would peer out of the room before preparing his bow. Whilst he was aware that this gem couldn't be the only thing of value in the facility, it was one worth defending. He wasn't going to sit there and cower with such a priceless thing right there in the room with him.

"You three!" Phil said, motioning to some guards. "Hold this room at all costs!"
As Phil turned to run down the hallway, Jack saw one of the guards carefully aiming his rifle directly at Phil.

With no time to really analyse whether the guard is going for the shot, he drew back the bow, aimed at the guard and unleashed the arrow.
(ooc: shooting, non lethal preferable)

[OOC: You're using a sharp weapon, so the normal rules of nonlethal damage don't apply here. If you like, however, you can do a called shot to one of his limbs at -2. If you wound him, he'll still be out of play, but he won't be dead. Not immediately anyway. He may be bleeding out (the arms and legs contain a lot of major arteries) but he'll at least live long enough you could ask him some questions, or try to get him medical aid]

The shot found its mark, impaling the unfortunate soldier through his right arm, causing him to go down with a howl. His two buddies, not especially used to technical consultants fighting back, wheeled and each fired a shot at the Asgardian, neither making contact.
[OOC: In reality, they both made their shots, but rolled rather pitifully on damage. The toughness mechanic doesn't translate especially well into real world mechanics though ("I got shot, but I'm really muscled, so I'm okay!"), so if you get shot and aren't wearing any body armor, I'm going to report that they missed in the IC section, if that's okay with everyone]

(ooc: from what i know from googling, Asgardians in general are more resilient than humans anyway) Lowering his bow after taking the shot. Despite that being shot at did have a small effect on him mentally, he spoke two the other two guards calmly "He was aiming at the agent as if to take a shot. I figured it'd be better to be safe than sorry to immobilize him."

The two soliders seemed perfectly aware of their comrade's actions, as they both simply shot at him again. One of them shot terribly wide, seemingly a little spooked by his bleeding comrade. The second shot landed, if only as a grazing blow. It wasn't a serious wound, but it was enough to shock Jack out of retaliating.
Phil, however, was far less shocked, though his initial shot was blocked by the soldier's kevlar.
[OOC: Last round, I gave you the first turn, as the soldiers had basically used their turn to aim at Phil. Talking to the guards, in this case, I'll count as a free action, but they still got initiative over you. You made your spirit check, so you won't be shaken for the next round of combat. The initiative for the next round if Phil, Jack, Soliders]
Phil's second shot, sadly, went wide. The sound of firefights across the building rang out, so no one else was paying particular attention to the noise here.

[OOC: Speaking a sentence or two is always a free action. And did Jack pass or Raise? If he passes he doesn't get a turn - he rolls Spirit on his next turn. Pass, he recovers but may take free actions only. Raise, he acts as normal. And I'd count shots that done make it through Toughness as grazing wounds, personally. Irksome but not dangerous.]

[OOC: What happened was that the soldiers got first initiative in round 2, and one of them managed to land a hit. Jack had his turn next and rolled spirit. He passed, without a raise, and the turn moved on to Phil, who fired, but did not beat his enemy's toughness. Round three started, with Phil moving first, and he missed entirely. After the last round, Jack is no longer shaken, so he is free to act again]

(ooc: now we have the confusion sorted, i'll reply now)
Cursing under his breath as the bullet grazed him- that'll hurt later. He flinched as he knocked back another arrow, aiming at the guard who shot him, and letting loose quickly.
(ooc: shooting, no called shots this time)

The arrow found its mark, but, much like Phil's earlier shot, was stopped by the guard's vest. Sadly, the guard seemed to have gotten his aim in a little bit, as his return fire hit Jack square and clean in the torso. Mercifully, it seemed to only be a flesh wound, and not a fatal shot. The second guard returned fire at Phil, but clearly needed to spend a little more time at the range.
[OOC: Next round is Phil, Jack, Guards again]
Phil's shot, however, landed cleanly on the guard who'd been firing at him, punching straight through his vest and striking the guard down. Jack still seemed a little stunned at having been shot, so the remaining guard opted to fire at the person who still seemed to be a threat. His shot was, perhaps, the most perfect shot ever fired in the history of shooting. It flew straight and true. Had anyone been able to see it they would have marveled at its perfection. But no one present was able to see objects moving that fast, so it just made a satisfying thud as it tore through Coulson's suit jacket and hit the kevlar under it.
[OOC: The first guard managed a raise on you, so you have one wound now. You didn't manage to make your spirit check (only because of your wound though) so you're still stunned for the next round. The turn order for the next round is Jack, Guard, Phil. Rather than roll this round, I'm going to give you the chance to use a benny on your spirit roll from last round, which would allow you to fight this round. Bennies are rare, so it's your call if it's worth it or not... but they're useless if I don't give you a chance to use them. On side note, the second guard aced his shooting roll against Coulson three times... and botched the damage role, even with this d6 bonus.]

(ooc: i don't think i'll benny this one.)
Grunting as he was shot, taking deep breath. That one hurts now! Jack would focus on calming himself down so he could take another shot

In spite of the effort Jack spent towards getting himself calmed down, he still couldn't quite seem to shake the pain. The remaining guard fired another shot at Phil, but the gun seemed to misfire slightly, ejecting the bullet with a pathetically small amount of force. Phil returned fire, putting a round straight through the guard's chest.
"I need a medic who isn't a traitor in the vault ASAP." Coulson ssaid into his radio. "If you are a traitor, and try to harm our guest, I'll shoot you in the head. Just FYI."

With the threat out of the way, Jack would drop the bow and slump against the inside wall of the vault, sinking to the floor. "Traitors are just lovely, aren't they?"

"Well, I don't have a whole lot of experience with them, until now," Phil said. He kept a cautious eye on the medic as she came in. She looked somewhat exhausted already, and had a fair deal of blood on her. Which wasn't surprising, as the found of fighting could still be heard across the facility, and it looked as though she'd been involved in a firefight herself. She spent about thirty minutes working on Jack's wound before she was satisfied it had been treated properly, and had to redo his bandages three times because her hands were shaking too badly to get them on properly.
"I can't get in contact with the director," Phil said, after shooing the medic out, when her work was complete. "S.H.I.E.L.D. is compromised, and I don't know who's still on our side. The Heart isn't safe here anymore. Or in any S.H.I.E.L.D. facility."
Phil typed in what looked to be an 11 digit security code and gingerly picked up the stone before tossing it to Jack.
"There's only one place left where I trust that can be kept safe. Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. Take it there, tell them that Director Furry needs them to keep it safe. Don't give it to anyone except Professor Xavier himself, and make sure it's really him. He should be able to guess what number you're thinking of, or something. You'll have to take a commercial flight to get there. I keep an emergency kit on site. If we can get to it, it should have enough cash to get you a flight. Get one with a lot of stops and transfers."

Thanking the medic, Jack gingerly got to his feet as Phil entered the code. Catching the stone as it was tossed at him, he'd nod in understanding "got it. guessing you'll tell me where that is when it's safe to?" pocketing the gem in the inside pocket of his jacket, he'd retrieve his dropped bow and his used arrows

"It's in Westchester New York," Phil said. "The exact location is public knowledge, though it's not widely known. On the outside, it's just an exclusive private school. On the inside, it's something different."

"Got it." Once prepared and confident that he had everything, Jack would gesture to Phil to lead the way "We need to get to that emergency supply, right?"

Phil nodded. "Follow me."
Phil moved slowly through the facility, though the firefights seemed to be winding down. It seemed less a strike of numbers, and more on of opportunity. The plan had likely been for the three guards to grab the heart, say it was stolen, and smuggle it out later.

Following along quietly, Jack would look back frequently to make sure that they weren't being followed, as well as being alert of his surroundings. After such a warm greeting, Jack wasn't sure who he could trust in this facility aside from Phil.
