over in Sweden, the blonde haired archaeologist would be kneeling over his most recent find. Pottery- how uninteresting. it wasn't cloth, like most archaeologists would hope to find, and it definitely wasn't what Jack was hoping to find either. quickly opting to move on after dating said pottery, finding his next spot to dig

A black SUV pulled up and parked near the dig site, with a well dressed man stepping out.
"Dr. Cuyler? Sorry to interrupt your dig. I just have a few questions."

not so much as looking up from his digging, shoveling dirt aside, out of the hole he was working in "what kind of questions? i can dig and talk at the same time you know"

"Well, I'm kinda curious about the Asgardian portal you're building in your attic," the man in the black suit said. "But that's not really why I'm here."

he'd pause, looking up at the guy "not sure if i ought to be impressed that you know what that stuff is, or worried..." putting the shovel in the dirt, the man would climb out of the hole, brushing himself off "so which one is it?"

"Neither," the black suited man said. "My name is Phil Coulson. I work for the Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division. You've not in any trouble. In fact, we've had a file on you since the 40s. Do you have any... enemies? On this planet or otherwise?"

arching an eyebrow, he'd respond with "i don't think the usual, light competition that goes on between anyone in the same field of research counts here, but that's the only opposition i can think of. incase your files don't state it, I prefer laying low for reasons"

Phil smiled slightly at that. "Well, perhaps you have an ally then. Every time someone's tried to talk to you, for any reason, they suddenly get hit with more tape than a wrapping paper store. The only reason I'm here is because the Director thought it was suspicious and managed to cut through it. Last year an 084, an object of unknown origin, landed in the New Mexico desert. We thought it was Asgardian, and we weren't wrong. Oddly, when we were looking for potential consultants, your name got buried somehow."

he gave a shrug "wonder why. As for why i popped up? well, it's almost like i have an asgardian portal in my attic- and have been around since the 40's." he fell silent at that, thinking "i'm open to giving it a look. no promises i'll divulge every secret, but i can promise no lies on my part. It's caught my interest, so why not?"

Phil shook his head. "You misunderstand. We're confused because you didn't come up. You should have. We had a file on you. But your name never showed up. The object came and went. It went back home. If you'd started working with us when we originally wanted you to, you'd also be home by now. I think someone wants to keep you here."

(ooc: derp on my part. i can read, honest!) "oh..." frowning "well then that's rather rude of them. so what brings you here now?"

"Another day, another 084," Phil said. "We don't know if this one is Asgardian or not, to be honest, so we're bringing in all the experts. That's probably why you didn't get properly buried. Last time... well when a immovable Norse hammer falls, we have a fair idea where it fell from."

"a hammer, eh? yeah, i think it does explain itself, afterall it's one of the more known parts of this world's Norse Mythology. as for the more recent one? what is it?"

"It's... hard to describe exactly. Best if you see it for yourself," Phil said. "You'll want to come with us anyway. Anything with enough power, or exotic enough components is something we would have detected and removed some time ago. All that's left is just so much priceless adamantium. I don't pretend to understand Asgardian technology, but from what I'm told, it's like trying to build a car. You can get the wheels on, the frame, the gears... but without an engine, and a battery, it's not going anywhere."

"that's generally how most things work." he'd give a shrug "can i finish here, first? last hole" he gestured to the one that was behind him

Phil lead Jack into the SUV when all was done, and Jack had cleaned up a bit.
"There's a private jet waiting at the airport to take you back to England. Tell us what you need from your residence and we'll have it sent to the facility, you can pick it up there."

Pausing at the SUV's door, Jack held a thoughtful look before listing off "Well, let's see. got my laptop, phone and camera with me. But there are some specialized tools up in my attic that I'll want to grab- unless you just so happen to have some of those laying around."

"We'll just swing you by then," Phil said. "Let you get what you need. You'll want your bow and arrows as well. Agent Barton mentioned he'd rather like a friendly competition."

Getting in the car at that with a "That sounds like it could be fun" and settling down for the ride.

The ride was short enough. The subsequent airplane ride back to England was surprising short, in fact, given the speed of the private jet that S.H.I.E.L.D. had returned him on, before finally another car took him back to his house.

Once at the house, Jack wasted no time locating and packing the tools he needed into a backpack, then his bow and arrows. After that; he'd return out, load his things into the car and get in.

The car took him to an official looking, but unmarked building, out in the middle of nowhere, and Phil lead him inside, through several security checkpoints, and finally into a vault. He indicated an item that seemed to have its own special containment area, and almost looked like it was on display. It was a stone, small enough to fit in the palm of a hand, some sort of crystal perhaps, ruby red. It shone from the inside with a bright, but somewhat flickering light.
"We call it the Heart of Flames," Phil said. "Which is a bit dramatic. It's cool to the touch, but we have no idea what the inner core temperature it is. All our drills just... melted once they got a few centimeters in Even the special order adamantium one. That shouldn't even be possible. And the drill holes just sealed themselves up. It looked like the heat melted part of the crystal to seal up the hole, but the total mass of the object is identical to what it was before. Ever seen something like this before?"
