OOC Surprise! It's a day early!
This is where the chief roleplaying will take place, at least until the party inevitably splits. You may not post in this thread unless you are on the official sign-up sheet. A reminder to all members: All dice-rolling will be done by me, Maiyrhia. If you wish to roll dice, please say so in an [OOC: roll fighting] style note, at the bottom of your post away from the main block of text - I'll spot the skill roll, throw some dice and state the results.
Reminder: Bennies may be used to instantly succeed in a single roll, if stated in the post itself before I roll. Everyone has three at the time of typing this.
Please read the plot so far before posting here.
Continuity Note: The characters of Neko and Afreeti are no longer in the roleplay. I decided not to kill them off; there is simply a plot-hole here. Please try not to call attention to it. I figured this was the nicest way to deal with players leaving us over the change.
IC By the time the party arrived in Aiwelleah, they were tired, sore, and absolutely covered in dirt. That last was mostly due to an ill-timed dust storm that had begun the day before and never really gone away; the dirt resisted all attempts to brush it off, and trying to wash it out only resulted in it turning into a thick clay that was even more annoying. Even Melasni's normally immaculate appearance was gone, replaced by caked clay - he had made the mistake last night of asking Kairo to wash him off as they passed a small brook.
The sun set at their backs as they entered the city, and Melasni headed automatically for the inn they had been staying at. "I'll stay with you tonight, but tomorrow at dawn I shall leave for Marstow." His voice was as calm as ever, showing no sign of the group's recent trials. Only the slightest hint of tiredness showed on his face, and then only if you knew what to look for. After a moment's pause, he smiled slightly. "I'll pay for the baths, and for our dirty clothes to be washed." This was probably as close to a thank you as he would ever give the Children of Power, and without waiting for a response, he headed to find the bartender.

[OOC: Yes, largely due to the dust storm still going on. He can remove it just fine - for a few seconds.]

Jadyr would of just have a prominent smirk on his face at the clay'd court wizard. But that didn't make him any less grateful to have an essentially free wash. having static in his hair is one thing, but dirt? that can get annoying. Once in the bar, Jadyr would happily take a seat to rest his aching feet. he liked it better when they had horses personally; less time walking, more time to sit and consider ways of effectively use his magic and become stronger. After all, sparking Nemos stops being educational and starts being fun after a while. (ooc: sorry for any terrible grammar. i've never been too good with writing)

A few coins exchanged hands, and Melasni made his way over to the three remaining Children of Power. His expression was set in a deep frown - not what you would expect from someone about to have a much-longed-for bath. "We have a problem." He hesitated before speaking, his voice low and worried. "Yal-Kash has declared war on Nishango."
[OOC: Reminder since we don't have a map uploaded yet: Nishango = central country, where Ekkhoen is from and where we started. Yal-Kash is to the right of it, Ekkhoen was there with Hairah and a few soldiers trying to negotiate.]

Well there goes the child of energy's smirk. "Yeah, I'd say that's a problem. Just a tiny little great big massive one. I'd say this isn't a war for us to fight; but who knows with how vague those prophecies are? Cultists are one thing, but war between two people over some disagreement? I'd rather not get caught up in that and be responsible unless there's a damn good way we could stop it without slaughtering people who are just following their orders"

Hearing this Ronan stops at the stairs apparently frozen in place, then his shoulders slump and an exasperated sigh escapes him before he straightens again. "I'm leaving at dawn with Melasni I suggest the rest of you do the same" he mutters darkly before continuing up to his room.

Kairo sighs... one of the few times such an expression has happened to the usually jovial Child of Water. "War? The last thing we need right now is war. But... if we're supposed to be saving the world, making sure there's a world left at the end of it sure is a start... I'm gonna take a nap first, gotta be ready for anything right?"
He wanders over to an empty chair, kicks his feet up on the table, and promptly appears to fall asleep. He opens one eye, "Wake me if there's anything important, brother of mine?"
Anyone paying close attention notices a small ball of water floating under Kairo's chair, slowly undulating and changing its shape; squares, circles, hexagons, showing Kairo isn't really sleeping, but focused on meditating, his mind troubled with the matter of this new news.

Entering in and caking the dust in clods of ice before peeling it off, Nemos bumps into as few people as he can. Dust and grit having settled on his hairless eyelids, he has had more than a bit of trouble from the storm. "We have a problem." He hesitated before speaking, his voice low and worried. "Yal-Kash has declared war on Nishango." Eyes go distant a moment; "Trust your source? I'd hate for you to waste your time chasing a myth" he mutters, before a flicker of attention goes back to his bonsai mountain. His eyes are pained whenever he looks at it, as though he's carrying a permanent reminder. This one seemed a bit poignant. As he stares off, vacantly, he vaguely squeezes his artefact -- the unmelting icecube. The chill an almost reflex sign of hitting deep thought by now. After all, he doesn't care if people around him are uncomfortable from the cold. They should have been careful to bring a coat in case an ice-mage turned up (he honestly thinks like this). A complicated expression then settles to one far more pleased when he hears Jadyr speak. I'd say this isn't a war for us to fight; but who knows with how vague those prophecies are? Cultists are one thing, but war between two people over some disagreement? I'd rather not get caught up in that and be responsible unless there's a damn good way we could stop it without slaughtering people who are just following their orders" "Yes. Introducing chaos and conflict when there are Children of Power about is a sure sign of intemperance, outside influence or stupidity-" -raising his fingertips to counter any irritated zaps from Jadyr, if necessary. ( Roll: Smarts to reason out whether the bartender delivered the info or overheard it. Roll: Knowledge Magic on mind-control -- perhaps relating to the Full Power of Fire? Something about the rise of anger there, I remember. ) Admin Note - please don't quote in RP posts, it distracts from the flow of the narrative :) No action necessary, you didn't know, just try to avoid it please.

Yes, there'd be a zap to shut him up "Either way. any plans on how to stop this damn thing would be nice. It'd be a win situation whether it's related or not: if it's related, we're on the right track to stopping this thing early, if not, it's still out of our hair." Sighing in slight frustration, the child of energy put his hand on the hilt of his artifact sword, unleashing some power into the gem- as well as vent some frustration. Nothing more than what he could do for free, but that wouldn't stop the odd spark from appearing. It's clear war, despite how much of a chaotic warrior he was, did not sit well with him.

"Children." Something in Melasni's tone makes it clear the word is used as a title, almost used out of respect, rather than an insult - definitely Children with an upper-case C. "By my estimation, you have only four months to finish seven Verses of your prophecy. I can't afford to care about the war, I need to work out if you've been granted any more time. This war may have nothing to do with you, I suggest we travel back to Marstow and ask Ekkhoen for the details before you do anything rash." Heleft his fear unspoken - the fact that Ekkhoen had been in Yal-Kash negotiating when war had broken out...

Distracted by an odd thought, Nemos' attention goes to Kairo's water ball. Sinking a bit of effort into it, he attempts to slowly... gently... glacially... intrude ice into the mix. The faintest of whispers: "But if it's magical... if it's designed... surely the creator will feel it if we interfere."

Kairo opens one eye. "We shouldn't do anything rash, sure." The ball of water continues to shift between shapes, albeit more slowly, they're less fluid and more pronounced. "However, we do need more information, so we need to talk to Ekkhoen, if he's around in Marstow, I'm guessing he was the one to inform Marstow of the declaration of war... If we're do do anything about it, we need information. We need to find out why it was started."
Another sigh, and his eyes close as if in concentration. The orb of water floats up from under the chair and rests a few inches above his outstretched hand, undulating even slower. He frowns, and opens his eyes, staring into the floating object, which slowly flattens becoming a nine sided shape, one side for each element, and each Child, before continuing.
Kairo moves his gaze from it after a second, to each of the Children of Power still around the table, and back to Melasni. "To do that, we need to talk with the leaders of Marstow and Yal-Kash. We have Children from each corner of the world, so we would, in a way, be neutral in this war. A still pool from which we can look over and observe the ripples, the problems."
At this last word, the shape of water turns into a flattened disc, its surface absolutely still..." His serious tone ends as the disc returns to an orb, and his usual calm, yet thoughtful expression returns. "But, the war isn't the only thing on our plate with these recent cultist attacks, so we should keep an eye on them too. What do you guys think?"

Jadyr merely shrugged "well there's a chance the war and cultists are linked. after all, they got an inside guy with you, right?"Hhe gestured to Melasni with free hand "Who said they haven't got other areas?"

Kairo blinks. "True enough, they could be linked. Hmm, are there others in Marstow with your kind of influence who the cultists might target?" He thinks for a second... "There's something else I've be thinking though. Well, in your information network, any number of spies could be hidden away without your knowledge. How do we know who its safe to trust? We can't assume any of them are telling the truth, unless we've met them and know them ourselves."
"So, why don't we do that. Meet your informants, and if spies spread the word that the Children of Power are getting involved, all's the better right? If we spread the word that the Children of Power have returned, people will be more likely to trust us and listen to our suggestions."
The orb, still floating above his palm, grows into a slightly larger ball, the outside of it begins to take on a whitish sheen due to Nemos' slowly encroaching magic, the innermost water flowing faster than the outside, creating a miniature whirlpool in the centre.
Kairo leans back on his chair, the front legs come off the ground almost to tipping point, yet it remains balanced. The orb still floats above his palm.

Nemos simply stays quiet. You can't quite tell if he's napping or thinking; he's feeling if he can sense Kairo's magic as it interacts with the ice magic. "We're vigilantes. We cannot be anything else. We must be careful not to show malice... or greed... or ambition... Really, our greatest test would be to not do anything at all. But am I willing to endure this war as a complication? The answer is no." Then, as if in emphasis, he pokes Kairo.
Admin Edit: "I poke" changed to "he pokes" to maintain third person format. Not a big deal, it was just making my writing-tutor senses twitch.

Kairo says nothing at first, and appears lost in thought, then looks over at Nemos. "Yeah, I suppose we are vigilantes... But, isn't a vigilante someone who works outside the law. We're the only ones in the world, at this time at least, who have the potential to be able to solve a lot of the things that are going on, so I think we should at least do something. And I have a feeling that sometimes the law won't be in many people's favour if the war picks up speed."
He pauses. "I think Nemos is in agreement, though sometimes what goes through that ice cube he calls a brain, I'll never know." He grins at Nemos. I repeat my earlier question. What do you guys think? What should we do? We're a group, and we're strongest united, it has proven so far. But, we're individuals too, and everyone's thoughts should be heard."

[OOC: Remember how two different Elements in one spell is impossible for you guys? Remember how I spent an entire Verse hammering that into your heads?? Luckily for you guys, I'm in a position to let it stand for now, but... your characters might remember they couldn't ever do that before.]
The little ball of icy water suddenly broke, the Water magic swamping the Ice it had been harmoniously flowing with as one Element took over the spell, the second being driven out entirely. This, naturally, was the same thing that had happened every other time two Children of Power had tried to cast one spell together.
Melasni simply shook his head. "I'm no part of your group. I've stated my intentions already, and now I shall have a bath." With that, he turned and headed up the stairs.

Shaking his head at the fail of magic, Jadyr would reply with "well, we can't just sit and do nothing. We're gonna need leads for the prophecy. you're both the brains of the group, what have you got on that so far?" Placing his hand back on the pummel of his artefact sword, putting energy into the gem once more, idly so.

Inside the gem, the wounded Explosion Elemental, Flint, managed a tiny pop of thanks. It had absorbed almost all of the energy Jadyr sent its way, and almost seemed a little stronger for it.
[OOC: Flint is now up to an effective level of three. Uploading the prophecy ASAP[EDIT: Uploaded that, at the very least]. Really, really busy in real life, but I'll get the various bits of stuff uploaded as soon as I can]

Without a pause, a forced smile appears on Nemos' face. "Nothing. I have nothing on that verse. It's obscure enough that, without a link or a tether, it will only make sense when the magic lets it." He then blinks. For such an aloof character, he's pretty agitated about that. "It could be evacuating Ostran, through to something utterly weird. It has to be vague enough that our opponents cannot make sense of it after all."
