[OOC: I do remember that combined magic is impossible at the moment, I tried to let the effects on gradually, while it remained purely a water spell, e.g. slowing down the undulations, the shapes becoming more pronounced, less water like, but still water. In the later posts I might have let it go a bit further than it should have, so sorry. But hey, it doesn't stop us trying, one day we might be able to do it.]
Kairo looks abashed at the failure, then drops his hand to his side, his expression contemplative for a second as he recalls the poem. "'The reign of trust, next to break'... Could it refer to the war? The trust between the two countries has broken."
"'Ties of Life you must remake...' I have nothing so far on that, I have no idea what the ties of life are. Hmm, maybe it means the bonds between countries, between the people, they need to be repaired, remade?" "'Death; The end, suffering, all here but'... Again, it mentions death, like in the first verse, in the same place. All of those things happen in war. And the end of the line. 'but' But what?"
He scratches his head, still leaning back on the chair.
"And the next part, 'All will be revealed as fake', what is fake, the war? Is something else going on we don't know about, is it the prophecy itself? This thing is so cryptic, I wouldn't put it past it."
"'The key, survival, the Holy Lake' The key to what, the world's survival? And it has something to do with a Holy Lake, possibly... seems too straightforward to me. Could it mean there's something we need to do to ensure survival... but who's survival? 'Fake'... could there be parts of the prophecy which aren't true? Like the previous Child of Water, only some parts of his prophecies came true, the parts which could be seen by the previous Child of Ice. We already know that I can see some things that Nemos doesn't."

the child of energy would be staring, stunned at the child of Ice's response- or rather, lack of. "Okay. who are you, what have you done with Nemos?" Then turning his attention to Kairo "Holy lake- who says we can't take things face value either? Maybe we should focus on that. Also, on a side note: I think we'd be better of staying here. I mean; we have those libraries, the schools, people we know and most importantly: if we stay here, we won't get caught up in the war, it won't get in our way should it not be related to this. We could easily get more done here than we could in a war-locked capital. Not to mention, this place does sort of give us access to everywhere in one form or another." Jadyr would look down at his pummel after that, in thought from the popping. It seemed a little stronger than when he first re-found flint. So he decided to just casually put some more energy in there

Child of ice shifts, uncomfortable and irritable seeming. "I just don't like the phrase "All will be revealed as fake". It's like finding a self contradiction in a book. It's 'telling' us that our situation must remain neutral and easy to commit effectively to a solution at a moment's notice. And I won't be satisfied unless we then deal with the problem yesterday for having wasted time. I want us to claim and keep the initiative." Rubbing his temples, Nemos takes a moment to cool off. He's not one for flexibility when it comes to a decision, after all. "You're right, Jadyr. Site and situation is our best lead. You can't make fake a lake."

(ooc I know this is being really annoying and unprofessional but since I inadvertently locked myself out of the conversation at the start. could all your characters decide they're tired and want to continue the discussion in the morning it would really help me out)

(ooc: sure. no problem. can't promise it immediately though)
Just sort of staring at Nemos "Are you alright? You're agreeing with me. Stop it, it's not you!" Genuine concern on his face, though, it was clear he was exaggerating for the effect. Either way, sitting back in his chair "So i guess you call it an early night and start pouring over library books tomorrow? And I'll just hit the smithy. Never hurts to earn some little extra cash to tie us over" shrugging "not to mention I want to try something that might make it easier for me to make something good"

Kairo looks around at the other, equally tired, Children of Power and decides, "Yeah, I guess it is time to rest, sleep on it, and see if things look clearer in the morning." His head falls back, and his hands come up to rest behind it. "It's even giving me a headache thinking about it."
He yawns, "Yep, bed time." He throws an appreciative nod towards the innkeeper, and gets up. The chair makes a quiet clunk as the legs return to their vertical position, and are on the floor once again. Kairo then slumps lazily upstairs, waving goodnight to the ones still at the table.

And Nemos takes a minute, still in his odd frame of mind, to chill and take a walk outside. If possible, he'd take a drink to the room in case anyone couldn't handle his constant urge to freeze himself. He tries not to sleep, instead being watchful in the night for any threats. There's a palmful of dust on the doorknob, the window ledge... every point of entry is made traceable. He's sitting in the second darkest corner, snapping snowflakes and keeping the drink chilled. (Rolls: survival for weather watching to see what things are going to be like tomorrow and potentially for camouflage before I hide in my corner on watch.)

After waving Kairo off, Jadyr would watch the paranoid child of ice take his spot in the corner before getting up, giving him a particularly hard zap. He wasn't aiming for damage, but for attention. "Snap out of it, you're not being Nemos here and if this keeps up, I'm going to have to actually call you out on being an impostor" And with that note, he turned to head up to bed, stretching little

A bit subdued this morning, Nemos brushes the dust away from the entrances, has a wash and makes fern patterns on the windows from the morning dew until people wake. He's sketching his thoughts, which include the distances in 20 mile increments (8hrs march) around Marstow and Aiwelleah; and tries to figure out the speed of communication between places. (Is there any magical communication? or horseback? Assuming that the knowledge just reached here, how long ago did the war start? Abstract it to a smarts roll?)

Ronan wanders down the stairs at dawn gear packed up and ready. he drops his pack by a table and looks to see if the inn keeper is around to get breakfast. He pauses briefly seeing Nemos before barely shrugging and moving on clearly deciding to ignore his present antics.

[OOC: See Metal's full power. Powerful Metal mages can communicate long distances via metal mirrors (really anything metal, could be a frying pan even...). From the Smarts roll: You'd say the war probably started the same day the second Verse of the poem appeared, given communication times and the bartender clearly not giving new news. If the news had travelled solely by horseback then the war would have started weeks ago, but that's unlikely for news this important.]
As Ronan looked for breakfast, the tiny Earth Elemental Aron could be felt playing in the dirt on the inn's floor, forming it into funny shapes around their feet. Flint remained upstairs, resting in Jadyr's gem.
Melasni walked downstairs shortly after breakfast arrived - just porridge, and rather bland porridge at that, but certainly edible. "Are you coming with me?" was all he said by way of greeting.

Melasni shrugged. "Whether anyone else is coming is irrelevant. I need to check how long you have to resolve this prophecy." He hesitated before continuing. "Aiwelleah serves as a good base for the rest of you. I may be able to find some Metal mages who can communicate whatever you learn to the others, if they stay here, and they can act on it immediately. I'm sure I can make Ekkhoen send a soldier to protect you." The tone he used to add that last bit showed a distinct lack of respect for Nishango's future governor.

"I'll not; it's more important that we do not commit, that we remain ready to respond. If I had my way, me and Jadyr would go to Yalkash; Kairo and you would go to Marstow. Given Melasni's network, we'd be able to affect the greatest positive change." At this, he steeples his hands and closes his eyes, thinking aloud. "If you're committed to go to Marstow, we 'have' to disperse and remain in contact. Reason: to maintain neutrality. We're children of power, first and foremost. Otherwise we'd stay here and be more ready to commit to a goal. Your choice, Ronan."

[OOC: It's an acceptable level of risk until we pass the point where 'all be revealed as fake', in Nemos' mind. There are also sound reasons why I'm splitting it this way. Think of it as raising the stakes, if I get the rest of the party's permission. After all, we're meant to be heroic, right? ]

"With respect please speak for yourself. I am a defender of Marstow first and foremost and now more than ever that is where I need to be. You can all come or not, I understand that this is less personal for the rest of you and you might even be right about remaining neutral but my home is threatened and I can't even begin to be neutral about that. I have sworn an oath to defend Marstow and her people and that's what I intend to do. If I can help with your prophecy solving from there I will but for all of your theorising it's still like trying to find a needle that moves around, in a haystack that may or may not exist, in a barn that we cannot get into! This we can do! This is a real problem that will kill hundreds of people! so you'll forgive me if it's where my priorities are!
(ooc: I'd keep all of you here honestly I'll probably pick up 2 more children of power in Marstow anyway so it leaves the teams fairly balanced)

Nemos' looks at Ronan, eyes locked.
"With respect? you are a child of power first and foremost. And now more than ever, Marstow is where you need to be. All I do is 'ask' that you take Kairo with you, if he is willing. I threw away everything I had when I heard the calling, so I can make that judgement call. You honestly think I don't take the spending of human lives personally?"
At this, he stands, squaring up to Ronan. It's impossible to ignore the fact that he's barely a third of Ronan's mass and a thinker, not a fighter, but he's standing up to Ronan nonetheless.

Ronan looks taken aback slightly, this being the first time he's had a reason to take Nemos seriously before squaring his shoulders and looking at Nemos with more respect than usual. "Your right... I'm sorry" he says clearly "but if the rest of you intend to stay here Kairo should to. You'll work better all together and Melasni and his contacts will more than cover any research on our end. I'll contact you when we arrive with an assessment of the situation"
