"Yes," Magneto said. "Charles Xavier is an old friend of mine, in fact. But I'm afraid I already have some information sources from inside the school. And Charles found you years ago. He's able to determine the location of every mutant on Earth. He may not know your name, or what you can do, but if he was interested, they'd have already made contact."
"As for infiltration into S.H.I.E.L.D." Mystique said. "That bit is easy. You'd be infiltrating as yourself. S.H.I.E.L.D. likes to invest in potentially powerful people, make sure they have aces in their sleeves. It doesn't matter that you don't have the skills they're looking for yet."

"Interesting... how is he able to do that, I wonder?" Alec mumbles to himself. "Sure, he might be able to find me, but if there are enough mutants out there it would be a tough job to find them all. Its easy to imagine that I slipped somewhat under the radar, since I haven't exactly caused any trouble for anyone. I keep to myself."
Alec sighs then. "As for SHIELD, I appreciate the vote of confidence there, I suppose. Though, it's interesting. You came to me before they did. Even though you say they have a file on me, they haven't done anything about it yet. But since you went to all that trouble to get me here, it means they are up to something, or you think they might be, and they might contact me soon. If, and I mean if, I decide to help you infiltrate, I'll need more information."

"They aren't looking to recruit you," Magneto said. "But S.H.I.E.L.D. does take volunteers. They believe them to be less likely to turn traitor if they sign up of their own accord. That's why you haven't been contacted. As for what they're up to, I told you. They're spying on our people. It's a violation of our rights and liberties. We're going to bring down their mutant division from the inside and put a stop to it. You're not the only one they're watching. Every mutant they can watch, they do watch."

"So I just walk in there with my resume and portfolio and expect them to hire me? That'll look suspicious as hell." He laughs. "More so, if they're watching me they'll know I've never even heard of SHIELD before today. Forgive my paranoia, but I can't help being suspicious that you should come now, without me having any prior contact from SHIELD. And there's another question. If they're truly watching all these mutants, why did you come to me? Before I showed her, Mystique had no knowledge of my ability. Things like that would have been in a file for SHIELD if they have a file on me. Or, was that another lie?" Alec was getting irritated, what they were saying was grandiose, and the idea behind it was a noble one. But, with all these lies, how could he trust these two any more than he could trust the government, if they were unwilling to be honest with him. [OOC: If I'm going to be playing a paranoid character, I'm going to be doing it right. He's sarcastic, paranoid and british. Have fun, he's not going to be easy to convince. ]

"Oh you don't apply to S.H.I.E.L.D." Magneto said. "You apply to MI6. S.H.I.E.L.D. was founded in America, no surprises there, but they now work for the World Security Council. Which you didn't know existed either. That means when they see you have an interest in intelligence work, they'll shunt you over to S.H.I.E.L.D. instead."
"And I knew exactly what you could do," Mystique said. "I was playing a part. Rogue wouldn't have known. Professor Xavier's machine tells him where mutants are, not what they do. If I'd looked like I knew what was going on, then S.H.I.E.L.D. would have seen that through the cameras they placed in your apartment. Still, we did know you'd ask these questions, so we brought a little extra proof. Magneto?"
Magneto produced a folder from some interior pocket and handed it to Mystique. It had the emblem of some sort of stylized black bird on it, with the initials "S.H.I.E.L.D." below.
"Let's skip right to the psych evaluation for how I knew you'd have questions to ask," Mystique said. "Let's see, blah, blah, blah childhood crap, etc, etc. Ah.'Martin exhibits a level of paranoia beyond the average mutant. This is believed to be on account of the constant effort needed to retain his form making him hyper conscious to risk. While a degree of paranoia is advantageous for an agent, care must be taken that he does not become overly questioning regarding orders.' Yadda yadda, more boring crap. Ooh, "While subject displays instinctive, but latent combat abilities, Martin has also displayed instability in the face of violence. If this instability is caused by guilt or fear of loss of control is unknown at this time. Believed to be manageable with training.' Oh, and there's a little note to the incident they're talking about, it's in your biography. Oh my, very nasty. They've a copy of the man's x-ray, do you want to see? Oh here, have the whole file. There's some lovely pictures in there of you, when you think you're alone. A couple of you sleeping. You know, not a lot of people would say so, but I think you're cute when you're sleeping. There's nothing quite as lovely as a mutant in their natural state."

Alec looks like he's about to go into meltdown, in all sense of the words. Then he pulls himself together. "And your natural state is what? A bunny rabbit? I can be blue for you if you'd like. At least, I think I can... I haven't tried." He looks at Magneto then, "If I turn blue, can I soften her razor sharp demeanour?"
Sighing, waving a hand at whatever terse reply he tries to offer. "Fine, so you point me at MI6, I get directed to SHIELD. Ok, but you still haven't told me how I'm going to do that. I can't exactly look them up in the phone book. I would ask if you wanted me to break and retrieve some of their files, but lets face it, you could do that yourself if there was anything you wanted that was worth retrieving." Pointing at mystique as he says this.

"S.H.I.E.L.D. already caught me," Mystique said. "As it happens, this is my natural state. I got hit by a taser and lost control during some field world. They knew I wasn't who I said I was. I ran, they shot me, they got a DNA sample from the blood, so they can check if someone is me or not. You, however, if you lose control, nothing happens that they don't expect. As for MI6, I'm not sure if they're in the phone book. But their website is sis dot gov dot uk. ... How did you think they hired people? Slipping into houses in the dead of night to make secret deals? Oh, and don't say MI6 when you're talking with them. They'll think you just want to be like James Bond."

"SIS. Special Intelligence Service, or something. These government organisations love their three letter abbreviations. SHIELD aside, but they're just being poetic." Alec looks down, in thought. After a minute, he looks up. "Fine I'll help you. I won't say I'm convinced, I still want more information. But for now, I'm interested in what's going on."

"Good man," Mystique said, shifting into a form that was, in terms of features, much like her normal form, though with a more human skin tone, and slightly more muscular. "Now, you said something about wanting a bodyguard?"

Nodding, his interest piqued yet again at this ability to shapeshift like she does. "Hmm, not bad. though you might want to consider a jacket, or you'll stand out somewhat in this weather." He looks up at the grey clouds that are so ever-present in this city, and shivers a little. "I could murder a cup of tea right now, so how about after I've grabbed my stuff we go to an actual cafe, instead of a dingy alley? Then we can investigate MI6 a little, and see if they like my portfolio..."

Mystique's clothes grew and changed, until she was clad in what appeared to be a black leather trenchcoat. "I don't like coats," Mystique said. "People always ask if I'd like to take them off. It's very awkward. But a public location is good. Few to no bugs. Public wifi is harder to track down."

"You could consider wearing actual clothes for once? Then people could take your coat as much as they want", he says as he starts to walk towards the entrance of the alley. Almost as an afterthought, he looks back to Magneto and holds a hand up in farewell. "I'd ask if you wanted to come along, but the cape kind of sticks out, even in a city full of students. I'm no going to question how you actually got here in it, though you don't appear to have Mystigue's 'talents'."
He turns to walk away again, but then stops. Walking over to Mystique, extending an arm out to her. "Shall we? It'd look less conspicuous."

Shrugging a little, and crossing his hands in front of his chest, Alec looks at her. "Well, that might be the case, but I dare say you don't seem a day over thirty five." He winks. "And my mother was a saint. You don't seem her type. But fine, suit yourself..." he says with a mock sigh. "I'm buying though, my treat. Though, I hope you'll forgive my boldness once more. Do you have pockets in that trench coat? How does making clothes like that actually work, for carrying things? Its just, it might give me ideas for my own ability, which is the reason I'm asking. Sorry, scientist's mind. Can't help laying out my curiosities, and I am curious." he finishes, putting his hands in his jacket pockets.

Mystique walked out of the alley, pulling her coat more firmly around herself as they left the shelter of the buildings.
"We tried to get you a little extra help," Mystique said. "There's a man called Alan Day. ... Well, I say 'man.' It's complicated. We can't find him, but he could be useful. When you get into S.H.I.E.L.D. you might see if you can dig anything up."

Alan's ears would have burned at the mention of his name, if he'd had any. Sure, they were headed away from Magnet-man, but if this woman knew of him - and his situation, from the sounds of it - how much more did she know? Might this even be the mysterious Fiona from the phone? After all, she could change everything about herself - but then, a phone call was impersonal, why bother disguising yourself? Although her remark about not being able to find him would then make no sense.
Bah, too many questions. Never any answers. All he knew was, as soon as he had Alec on his own, he'd make his own introductions. And try not to scare the poor kid in the process, he was paranoid enough as it was.

"Help, from a guy named Alan Day? Well, I'll keep that in mind. What sort of help are you talking about?"
Walking out of the alley, Alan also pulled his jacket tighter, to fend off the chill mostly. He hated this Oxford weather. Never a really sunny day, always bleak or raining, especially at this time of day. He heads back towards the dorm with a casual-seeming gait, but inside he was still nervous. His attempts at humoour to cover it up had seemed to work, anyway. He shivered, then turned back to the redhead that was Mystique, slowing his pace till he was next to her.
"Would you mind changing back to the other girl, Rogue was it? See, I'm not in the habit of taking different girls home on the same day. It might look less conspicuous. I might not have many friends to speak of, but people notice. Especially in dorms." But, after a moment of thought. "Saying that, I won't necessarily be staying there much longer, so it may not matter too much..."

Mystique changed her shape again, going back to the southern girl she had started out as. "Computer help. He's good at gettin' into systems and the like. Part of what makes him so hard to find. Ah got a friend who said she thought she could find him, but I haven't heard back from her yet. Startin' to wonder if maybe Ah shouldn'ta trusted her."

... Huh. Maybe it was a better idea to reveal himself now. Or it was a trick. Or, any number of things...
Gah, just do something. Alan pushed his recordings towards the network once more, hoping it'd actually upload properly after the minimal signal he had in the alley, then set the ringtone going. No incoming call, just the ringtone. And opened the messaging app, setting the recipient as the phone he was residing on - just in case one was actually sent. Synthesising a voice without the proper software was way too hard to do spontaneously.
"Alan's right here," he typed out, ready for Alec to see.

"Hmm.... Hold on a sec." Alec stops and reaches into his pocket. "Huh... there's no call, just an open message... but I didn't..." His thoughts reeling for a second, a few possibilities came to mind. "This Alan, tell me more about him."

The message erased itself, then another was written out, accompanied by a message tone. "Or you could ask me. I'm in your phone." Alan was enjoying himself already. This kid had no clue.

Noticing the new message... humming to himself. Then he types into the phone. "When she said you was good at getting into computers, I didn't expect she meant like this..." Alec carries on walking towards his dorm, and his room, waiting for the reply from Mystique, and from the person who'd gotten into his phone, claiming to be this "Alan". He fit the criteria, definitely.

Alan erased all the messages, then typed, "I can hear you, too; you don't have to type. It seems we have mutual 'friends'."
