Alec looks up from his cup. "Nice to meet you, Miss Hill. I didn't know how long I would be waiting so I already ordered. Would you like something?"

Hill shook her head with a smile. "That's quite all right. Actually I was hoping we could get right down to business. MI6 passed your application on to my organization. We're the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division. Don't let the name fool you, we're international these days. 'Homeland' basically means Earth now. Believe me, we can offer the same quality of work, if not better. And your application comes at a very good time."

"Very well then, down to business. Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division.... SHIELD. I've heard of you, though doubtless I don't know nearly enough." Alec takes a bite of his sandwich. "I had originally applied to MI6, but if the prospects at SHIELD are better, I'd be happy to sign up." A sip of tea. "It's interesting though, you said my application couldn't have come at a better time. What do you mean by that?"

"Our local office is compromised by a splinter group," Hill said. "That limits the options on who I can trust. You'd passed your background checks before you applied, and since you're new, that'd limit your exposure to the splinter group. I recognize it's possible they've contacted you, but it'd limit the amount they could have indoctrinated you. Long story short, we're compromised, I need outsiders to help resolve the situation."

"Indoctrinated? You make it sound like I've been brainwashed. Rest assured, Miss Hill. This brain of mine is 100% under my own control." Tapping himself on the head to emphasise his point. "Still, you have my application, you know what I can 'do', I assume. How can I help?"

Hill handed him a business card. "The address is our current place of operations. Like I said, I need an outsider to investigate. You work out who at least some of the traitors are, not counting the ones who openly attacked us, and we'll review your performance based on that." She passed over a white laminated card with a large QR code printed on it. "If someone doesn't want to talk to you, have them scan this. It'll tell them you're there on my behalf."

Taking the card, glancing at the address and pocketing it. "That's a lot of trust you're placing in me, but I'll do what I can. Anything in particular I should watch out for?"

"Yeah," Hill said. "Try not to get shot."

Nodding, "I'll do my best..." Absentmindedly wondering what it would be like to get shot, with his body the way it was, then deciding he'd rather not find out either way. "Thanks for your time, and for considering me, Miss Hill. I'm sure you hear this all the time, but I look forward to working with you." Picking up his tea, and sipping, in thought now. What would be the best way to not get shot... and who was he dealing with here.

After she leaves, he takes out the card she left, with the address, and looks at it properly. Taking out his phone and the messenger app, so Alan can see. "What do you make of this address?"

Alan had, naturally, been recording the entire conversation. He was glad Alec had the initiative to show him the card without being asked, and quickly searched every detail: address, phone numbers, any images... His algorithms churning through the same routine they had for Maria's name, along with a reverse image search thrown in for kicks. "Show me the other thing as well, just in case," he messaged, not entirely sure what Maria had handed Alec to be scanned. "And be careful - we're probably being watched. They might have access to cameras in public places, even inside. I know what Brits are like for surveillance..."

Alan's search on the card turned up a lot of information that matched up with his previous searches on Hill. Not surprising, given her cover. The address checked out as well. A building of the proper name, Excelsior Industries, in the proper place. What was odd about the building was that there was almost no other information about it to be found. The only thing of note was that it used to be an armory before it was emptied and sold off to Excelsior Industries. The corporation itself had a very minimal online presence, and no actual website, though it appeared they supposedly manufactured carpet cleaning equipment.

Replying, "It's a QR code, on a laminated card. Some sort of identification, or verification that she did indeed send me, if people decide to question who I am, and why I'm there. Could come in handy. Probably a way to track me too, if I ever need to use it."

Alan linked Alec to the info on the building, commenting, "If where we're going was an armory, it's probably fairly well fortified. And equipped. If they don't let you in, even with that card, what are you going to do?"
He thought for a second, then added, "Plus, if there's really a splinter group or whatever, that card might make you more of a target."

"Agreed on both points. I don't know what we'll do if they don't let me in, yet. I guess we'll figure something out on the way... Maybe you could hack into their systems once we get close enough. And yes, it might make me a target, even just carrying it. It sounds reasonable to assume I'll be a target, until proven otherwise." Opening up his laptop then, wanting to check over Alan's link, as well as how to get to the address on the card. He hoped this cafe had wifi, most places did these days. If it did, maybe Alan could encrypt the connection. Might as well act like a target.

The cafe did, indeed, have wifi, and there were a few secured private connections as well.

Alan quickly transferred back to the laptop over the café's wifi, and did a brief scan of the others, looking at their encryption methods. He tried a few of the more obvious passwords - people were, after all, dumb - whilst opening his previous link for Alec so he didn't have to re-type it.

Alan takes a few minutes to scan over the information on the link, then sips his tea, before looking up the address, and how to get to it. How far away, what sort of transports are available, train or bus, or coach. He didn't have a car, unfortunately, though he had passed his test a couple of years previously.

The address was some way outside the town of Stonor. A combination of buses would take a little over an hour to get to the general area.

[OOC: Sorry, missed that. Rolling hacking]
One of the wifi networks, jokingly named "MI6 Surveillance Van" accepted the password "letmein."

"brb", Alan messaged quickly, connecting to the network and quickly transferring himself to the router. He made sure the owners couldn't trace them or sniff their packets, setting up what should be an entirely separate and encrypted line, before jumping back to Alec's laptop. "Use this connection, it's secure."
With that, he updated his servers with the latest recordings he'd made. Maria was certainly an interesting character, and he was glad he'd taken up the hacker's offer to go on this little adventure. Felt like weeks ago now.
Of course, reminiscing gets you nowhere. Alan probed the net for an open port related to this mysterious building they were going to head to. Since it was relatively close, digitally speaking, it shouldn't take too long to find something if it existed. Should share a similar IP block, too.

No open ports, or ports of any kind existed for the building. It seemed as though it was cut off from the outside world, digitally speaking.

"Looks like I can't hack in from here," Alan messaged. "There might be an unsupervised computer there, though. Bring a cable."
